Event Introduction
HAFCT organized a Blood Donation Camp in partnership with Pusa Road Blood Bank Organization.
What made this camp truly special was the date 07th December, which is the Armed Forces Flag Day and celebrated by the tri-services, Army, Navy & Airforce. Gp Capt Kunal Kalra, Vrc was the Chief Guest & donor of the day. He was awarded the Vir Chakra for his exceptional valour in Operation SINDOOR.
Donors from the age of 18 to 60 / 65 years were permitted to donate blood. The donors were screened by an MBBS doctor for their health condition and previous donor history. First Time donors were permitted only till the age of 60 years while others were permitted till the age of 65 years. Strict norms of minimum weight 55 Kgs, minimum Hemoglobin 12:5 and BP with in admissible limits was ensured for each donor. The donors were tested for their weight, BP, Sugar, Hemoglobin.
There were many volunteer donors who were screened out for low hemoglobin and high BP condition. The Blood Grouping of all donors was also ascertained. A few donors did not know their blood group type which was told to them on the spot.
A total of 45 residents volunteered to donate blood, each leaving with a better understanding of their health status and actionable medical advice. However, only 25 were screened fit to donate blood.
Health Discoveries & Blood Report
For a few donors it was revelation as they were screened out due to less weight and low Hemoglobin. Early detection of these conditions enables timely intervention to prevent serious complications.
Post Blood Donation Camp, the Blood was processed in the Pusa Road Lab for checking each donated blood unit for Venereal Disease, HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. The Blood Bank Organization shared the report of all the 25 donors as Negative and Normal. The same was communicated by HAFCT to all the blood donors.
Key Insight
The Medical Screening revealed that hemoglobin of people was lower than what they assumed. In a few cases it was low for even otherwise fit and energetic persons, thus indicating the need for periodic health check-up.
